Homework

Homework is a valuable part of our work at the school, and a way to reinforce and extend our educational and therapeutic programmes.

We recognise that some of our pupils are unable to do formal academic homework, and for them homework will consist of learning and practising self-help skills in the home context. Work undertaken in lessons does not depend on successful completion of homework tasks.

We employ a positive approach, using praise rather than sanctions, to encourage our pupils to do homework.

We ask that parents and carers:

  • If possible, provide a reasonably peaceful, suitable place in which pupils can do their homework;
  • Work with their children, when necessary;
  • Make it clear to their children that they value the homework
  • Encourage their children and praise them

Homework is an important means by which we can further develop an effective partnership between the school and parents and other carers.
