    Governors List 2016 -2017:

    Chair
    (Community Governor)
    Cllr Isobel Ballsdon

Isobel joined the governing body in 2008, having developed an interest in the school as a child.  Her mother was one of the school’s physios for over 13 years at the old site on Basingstoke Road and sometimes took Isobel along to see the school.

Isobel brings her local authority knowledge and experience to The Avenue School, having served as a Conservative councillor on Reading Borough Council since 2006.  She has been the Conservative Group’s spokesman on many areas over the years including Children’s Services and Education.

She has chaired the governing body since October 2009.

    Jennie Kettel

    Jennie Kettell

    Parent Governor since Nov 2014

I am married with 2 daughters. One who has attended The Avenue since she was 3, is now 11 and has Autism and Severe Learning Difficulties. My other daughter has Autistic traits and is in mainstream school.

I also work for a charity called Parenting Special Children where I am the Diagnosis Support Coordinator. I support families who have been through or going through a diagnosis process for special needs with their child. I am also on the Committee for the Tilehurst Autistic Group holiday play club.

My main interest for the school is to offer opportunities to involve parents as much as possible in their child's education in order to have a consistent approach between home and school. I am also focussing on pupil achievement and experiences at school and beyond.

I am a retired Clinical Scientist with an R & D background. My relationship with the Avenue school is both Special and long-standing. By “Special” I am referring to my son who spent 14 wonderful years at the school. I am also co-chairperson of a Reading-based charity, INSAAN, which helps and supports families coping with disability.  INSAAN has worked with the Avenue on a number of occasions, mostly to celebrate the cultural diversity in our community. With this background and my role as Community Governor, I am privileged being in a position of trust to ensure that all our young people receive the best care and provision at school. It is also important to me that each and every child is provided opportunities to achieve their full potential. In addition to my role as Community Governor at the Avenue, I am also a SEN Governor at a mainstream school and a Trustee on the board of a Multi-Academy Trust  (MAT).
