Training

All staff joining the school are provided with a full induction to enable them to support pupils safely and ensure they are looking after their own well being at the same time. Manual handling training is a key part of the induction package as is Team Teach positive handling training to support pupils in remaining calm and managing their own behaviour.

Specialist teaching techniques such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and TEACCH structured learning strategies are also included for relevant staff.

The school's training days are packed with whole school training and updates for the 140 staff and governors attend some of these sessions.

The weekly training sessions are highly valued and range from hearing of new initiatives to sharing of good practice and cascading newly acquired knowledge and skills.

The breadth of training provided supports the provision map (see below) and plays to staff strengths as well as to enable them to fully support the classes and individual needs of the pupils that they work with.
