    Performing Arts

The school has a focus on Performing Arts.

The pupils receive specialist teaching in music, dance and drama.  We also have a wide range of professional groups who come into school to inspire our pupils through performances and workshops.

The main focus of Performing Arts at The Avenue School is about developing individual’s confidence, creativity and communication.

Pupils have many opportunities to perform and share their work with a variety of audiences in assemblies, special days, performing arts weeks, and at local venues.

Quote from a member of the audience at Reading Primary Schools Music Festival at March 2015 - 'I was impressed by the pupils of The Avenue School. I was inspired by their obvious passion and enthusiasm for the music involved, throwing caution to the wind by singing and dancing with vigour and energy. The pupils were a credit to the school and a delight to watch'

Performing Arts week is the highlight event of the year.  It is theme based and is the culmination of a year’s work.  Previous themes have included Bollywood, Africa, China and the Caribbean.

Performing Arts is taught in discrete sessions and through a cross curricular approach and is an integral part of our curriculum delivery.

The school pays visits to theatres to watch professional performances and theatre groups regularly perform in school for pupils.  Theatre groups also include pupils in productions and workshops.

Each year a selection of pupils take part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival, performing to the public in local theatres.   The school choir are invited to perform at local events.
