It's Child's Play
Reading Borough Council inclusive playground news
Families can enjoy two brand new play areas in Reading. At Palmer Park, an inclusive adventure playground is open for children of all abilities, with new equipment that is unique to Reading. Accessibility is at the forefront with the frame providing ramps, level access, a double width slide and interesting non-physical activities.
It follows the opening of a new play area in the Orts Road Estate at Canal Way, which also has modern accessible play equipment. Residents helped choose the designs for both areas - for Palmer Park we worked with our Access and Disabilities Working Group, which includes families of children with disabilities.
At Canal Way, the community and local school children took part in a vote. Both projects benefited from a £100,000 investment and were funded using the Council's Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) which is made up of contributions from new developments in the Borough.
