Yellow Pathway
The Yellow Pathway is designed to meet the needs of pupils over the age of 11 who face more moderate barriers to learning.
Some pupils may transition to this pathway at an earlier age if appropriate. Our curriculum offer aims to enable our pupils to grow into confident, responsible young people who are motivated to move on to further education, employment, and potential independent living opportunities. It is important to recognise that Yellow Pathway caters for a broad range of pupils and we differentiate learning accordingly, carefully considering what the young person’s next steps beyond The Avenue will look like.
Our curriculum aims to develop pupils' capacities in the four key areas of the SEND Code of Practice, which are:
-
Social and Emotional Development
-
Communication
-
Physical Development and Sensory Integration
-
Cognition and Learning
We carefully consider the pupil holistically and ensure that our curriculum offer is broad, rich and varied. We aim to provide a different experience compared to the pupil’s primary peers and prepare them for Post-16 education.
Teachers plan their learning activities so that pupils will learn:
-
To develop their emotional literacy, showing concern for the feelings of others and the ability to compromise and resolve conflict
-
To develop an awareness of how to be a good citizen by using their own sense of right and wrong to make decisions
-
To listen to and debate different ideas
-
To speak with confidence and fluency to a range of different audiences
-
To use a combination of physical skills with fluency, accuracy and confidence in sports contexts and in competitive situations
-
To maintain and increase their fitness and independently make healthy lifestyle choices
-
The self-care and life skills needed to progress to independent living
-
That there are different ways to solve problems and reflect on the effectiveness of their choices, including those that use mathematical concepts and skills
-
To independently follow complex routines
-
To read a wide range of texts for meaning and pleasure
-
To write fluently for a wide range of different purposes
-
The therapeutic benefits of spending time close to nature and develop an appreciation of the natural world and the need to protect it on a global scale

Assessment
Each young person has a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) that acknowledges that alongside the academic curriculum, we plan, deliver and assess against Education, Health & Care Plan outcomes. Teacher’s carefully break down EHCP outcomes into small, achievable steps, which are reviewed twice a year. Our young peoples’ learning is captured and reviewed using Earwig. Through Earwig we are able to record progress towards PLPs and curriculum outcomes.
