Our Strategies
At The Avenue, we have a broad and rich curriculum that meets the needs and addresses the challenges that our young people have. As we support a large community of young people, we pride ourselves in having:
- Professional curiosity – observing and problem solving as a team to understand barriers to learning, celebrate successes and share best practice across the school
- A clear understanding of how teaching & learning opportunities should be planned for, to ensure that our pupils are taken on an exciting learning journey whilst understanding prior knowledge and skills
- Open and honest conversations with middle and senior leaders around what is working well and what needs to be improved to further support our young people
- Regular opportunities to attend training that supports the ideologies around how we develop skills, knowledge and understanding over time, considering cognitive load, readiness to learn and the role of the adult to facilitate effective teaching.
Each pathway across the school has a clear curriculum vision with teaching and learning strategies that are deployed by staff to ensure pupils have opportunities to be as successful as possible. (see pathway pages for further information).
A brief overview of the pathways and their vision is featured below. Please visit the individual pathway pages (found by selecting the 'Our Curriculum' page) for more detail.
