6th Form Provision
Our Vision
At The Avenue School, our Sixth Form provision supports young people with Special Educational Needs to prepare for a happy, fulfilling and aspirational adult life.
We focus on developing independence, confidence, communication and real-life skills, enabling every learner to move successfully into further education, supported employment or adult social care.
Our work is guided by the PACE approach – Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy – ensuring that every learner is understood, valued and supported as an individual.
From September 2026, our Sixth Form will be part of a satellite service, based in King's Academy Prospect School. More details to follow.
Our Curriculum Intent
Our bespoke Post-16 curriculum is designed around the four key areas of Preparation for Adulthood (PfA):

Each learner follows a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) linked directly to their EHCP and PfA outcomes, ensuring learning is meaningful, individualised and aspirational.
Our Post-16 Pathways
To meet a wide range of needs, Sixth Form pupils follow one of three carefully designed pathways:

Teaching, Learning and Timetables
Teaching in Sixth Form follows The Avenue’s Teaching & Learning Policy, ensuring learning is:
- Developmentally appropriate and flexible
- Clearly structured with differentiated outcomes
- Supported by communication systems and sensory regulation
- Carefully assessed and reviewed
A typical Sixth Form week includes:
- Morning Group Time – emotional check-ins, communication routines and planning
- Core Learning – English, Maths, Reading for Pleasure and Life Skills
- Afternoon Sessions – PSHE/RSE, Careers, Creative Arts, Physical Development
- Community Learning – travel training, volunteering, enterprise and enrichment
Timetables are personalised and balance class-based learning with real-world experiences, helping pupils practise skills in meaningful contexts.
Cultural Capital and Enrichment
Cultural capital is a core part of Sixth Form life. Learners take part in a wide range of enriching experiences, including:
- Visits and workshops from organisations such as the Royal Navy and emergency services
- Sixth Form events including Prom, Winter Ball, Discos, Movie Nights and Fundraisers
- Weekly sports opportunities such as tennis, climbing and hydrotherapy
- Educational trips to places including London, Oxford Museums, Ufton Court, Reading Museum and The Rivertime Boat Trust
- Community-based activities that promote independence, teamwork and confidence
These experiences broaden horizons and support pupils to feel confident and capable in the wider world.
