Our Curriculum

The Avenue School pledges to deliver a bespoke, meaningful curriculum for all pupils that considers their successes and interests as well as their barriers to learning or accessing developmentally appropriate experiences. Our curriculum offer runs parallel with our school ethos of PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity & Empathy – Hughes, 1997).

We take pride in working holistically and aim to develop every part of the young person in our care through our Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) & Preparing for Adulthood Plans (PfA), which are closely linked to Education Health & Care Plans (EHCPs). These plans run parallel to the curriculum offer for each young person. Our five pathways are carefully curated to offer an appropriate and exciting educational experience linked to individual outcomes, as well as promoting a strong sense of community and togetherness across the school.

Our curriculum:

  • Is broad, balanced and meaningful
  • Is modified and adapted to the individual
  • Is developmentally appropriate which enables pupils’ to be successful
  • Builds on existing knowledge, skills and understanding
  • Encourages the love of learning
  • Promotes confidence, high-self-esteem, independence and mutual respect
  • Develops a respect for the environment
  • Prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adulthood
